In a world where passion and perseverance often collide, Kaya Phillips, CEO and founder of Drizzle and Deaf, is the epitome of resilience, drive, and advocacy. She wears many hats: a full-time honors student, an entrepreneur, an advocate, and a mentor. Despite the odds, Kaya has proven time and time again that determination can lead to extraordinary achievements.
A Student First, Always Learning
Kaya is pursuing her second degree in audiology with aspirations of earning her doctorate and establishing her own practice to serve the Deaf community. As a full-time student at the University of Memphis, she is also an honors student, celebrated for her academic excellence and dedication. Recently nominated and inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), Kaya continues to demonstrate her commitment to personal and professional growth.
A Professional and Advocate
Kaya’s passion for advocacy has shaped her career and personal journey. She balances her studies with a full-time position she loves, working tirelessly to create meaningful impact. Her work extends beyond her job: as a Deaf intern, she collaborates to amplify the voices of the Deaf community; as an intern at Memphis Wesley, she fosters inclusion and service; and as an EmpowerEd intern, she engages in groundbreaking educational initiatives.
A Brand with Purpose
Kaya’s business, Drizzle and Deaf, is not just a brand, it’s a mission. Through her company, Kaya bridges the gap between the Deaf and hearing communities by hosting curated events, teaching sign language, and creating apparel that celebrates Deaf culture. Her work is deeply personal, driven by her own experiences as a Deaf individual who discovered her identity later in life.
Advocacy in Action
My advocacy journey includes remarkable achievements. I have been a part of the Thrive program and collaborated on the Financial Aid Project with Sonny Metoki, tackling barriers to higher education. My voice has echoed through transformative protests, where I have passionately fought for equality and justice.
A Community Leader
I am a proud member of the Memphis ASL Tigers Club, where I connect with others who share my love for American Sign Language and Deaf culture. I use my platform to create spaces where everyone, regardless of their background, can feel included and valued.
Juggling It All with Grace
Balancing a full-time academic schedule, three internships, a full-time job, and running a business is no easy feat, yet I do it with grace. My success isn’t just about time management, zit’s about passion, purpose, and an unyielding commitment to making a difference.
I,Kaya Phillips, is proof that when you combine ambition with advocacy, the result is transformative. I am a leader, a dreamer, and a doer, and my journey inspires us all to push beyond limits, embrace our identities, and use our voices for change.
